Minneapolis Engagement Session: What To Pack For The Best Results

Congratulations on your engagement!

There is nothing more exciting for us as a husband and wife photography team than being chosen to help a couple tell the story of their love through photos. As some of the Minneapolis area's best wedding photographers, we've got plenty of valuable preparation tips to offer. Before the day of your official engagement photos, consider the following list of things you might want to bring to your session for the best results.
  1. A selection of outfits that capture your unique style.

Of course, the first thing people will notice in your photos is the love we capture, but the second thing they'll see is your clothing. Choose outfits for yourselves that not only fit the style you'd like to portray but that portray you--and bring a few options! We want you to be 100% comfortable in the clothing you choose. If you're not entirely sure, you can absolutely consult with us to help you decide. And remember: you don't have to limit yourself to one style. Your relationship has seen both casual and formal occasions; there's no reason your photos can't, too!

  2. Props that have special significance to you and your spouse-to-be.

We always take time to talk to to you before the session to get to know you on a more personal level and if you have input on a particular theme for your engagement session. Are you and your betrothed comic book connoisseurs who want to announce your marriage in geek-chic style? Pack those capes and masks to show off your superhero style! Interested in more subtle, romantic elements? Consider bringing flowers, silk scarves, candles and/or other small details if they have a special significance to your relationship. Whatever you choose to bring, we will work flexibly with you to help create the ideal photo set to truly celebrate your special relationship. If you'd prefer to have a simple, prop-free engagement photography session, it's perfectly fine to skip these when packing. Above all, your engagement session should focus on you and your beloved's unique personalities.

  3. Beauty and grooming supplies for those inevitable touch-ups.

Keep on-hand a small selection of emergency makeup, hair products and other grooming supplies for those slight touch-ups and "oops" moments. You could even choose to completely change your look for a few photos. There's nothing wrong with doing fresh and glam in one shoot!

  4. Water (and maybe a few snacks).

Because our photo shoots tend to be so engaging and fun, it's important to take a moment now and again to stay hydrated and fueled for your session! Bring along a few bottles of water, and even a few light snacks to keep yourself fresh and ready for the next great shot.

As experienced Minnesota wedding photographers, we adore working closely with our clients to create the best, most personal and authentic engagement photos possible--these suggestions are only a starting point! What would be your absolute must-haves for your engagement session? If there's anything you think we've missed, please feel free to share it with us in the comments.
